The purpose of the Brazos Valley Worldfest is to promote and celebrate the international diversity and heritage of the Brazos Valley. This free admission event advocates for international awareness in the Bryan College Station area by offering cultural displays, demonstrations, international cuisine, performances, children’s crafts, storytelling and many other activities.

As I have a passion for other cultures, this event was one of the most intriguing and eye opening experiences I have ever had. It was interesting to see the passion and admiration people had not only for their own culture and heritage but others as well. While at the beginning of my shift on display services, there were some cultural boundaries. As I got more comfortable asking questions, they easier it was to navigate through situations to ensure each booth, vendor, and cultural display was running smoothly. However, there was times throughout the event where my services did not feel needed and I was at a loss of what to do. This changed when we started tear down of the event. Tear down became rather frustrating as many of the board members were not on the same page about what needed to be done; this led to many contradicting instructions and confusion for myself and the other volunteers. Through this experience, I learned the value of diversity and the importance of team consensus.
