The United States Tennis Association (USTA) is the national governing body for the sport of tennis and the recognized leader in promoting and developing the sport’s growth on every level in the U.S. For the past couple of years, USTA has partnered with the Abilene Convention &  Visitors Bureau (ACVB) to host the Texas Gram Slam tennis tournament for ages 11-18. The purpose of this championship tennis tournament is to provide the opportunity for kids to compete against the top athletes in their age division in the state.

The Texas Grand Slam is a weeklong tennis tournament that essentially takes over Abilene and occupies almost every single tennis court in the city. While I checked in players and distributed event items, a majority of my contribution came post event. I was tasked with compiling action shots and photographs into a recap video to show board members and tournament participants. I received very high feedback from my supervisor and the board. Through this event, I learned the importance of post event details. With the recap video, I was able to capture a multitude of moments into one single viewing that is still being circulated today. Also, I was able to sit in on the planning board's post event brief where they discussed successes, failures, and improvements. Even though the tournament was a success, there is always room for improvement.
