Royalty Pecan Farms is a family owned and operated working pecan farm that also features a farm store and event venue. Each year they host an Annual Pecan Harvest Festival for Bryan College Station residents and tourists; the purpose of the event is to celebrate the upcoming pecan harvest and promote healthy living, local culture, and agtourism through an educational and entertaining experience.
While my role at this event was small, the impact the volunteers had on the event was big. I was essentially an extra pair of hands to load tables, carry bags of pecans, sweep the floors, set-up water stations, and help vendors. The volunteer coordinator trusted me with these minor details, so she could focus for intricate logistics of the event. Through working this event, I learned the importance to ask for help and sometimes you have to relinquish control of the minor details to ensure the event's overall success. It is important to show volunteers they matter and contribute to the successes, and I am thankful the volunteer coordinator showed that towards me as I know actively seek to do the same towards volunteers and workers at my events.
