The purpose of this free admission event is to provide residents of the Bryan College Station area with festive, family-friendly holiday activities and a Christmas light display at Stephen C. Beachy Central Park the first two weekends of the holiday season. Activities include old-fashioned hayrides, cookies and hot cocoa, live entertainment, a petting zoo, inflatables, real snow slides, photos with Santa and more.

While working the Christmas in the Park event, I encountered many individuals and families of various socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. Many of these conversations were challenging, but opened my eyes to see the diversity at an event. Through these interactions, I learned how to efficiently communicate through language and cultural barriers to help the attendees understand the importance of the liability form. While I am not a master in navigating these types of situations, I am thankful the the Parks & Recreation employee at the registration table who worked alongside me, as she taught taught me how to be assertive without being aggressive. I now also know the necessity of bringing an extra jacket with me to events on winter nights as one sweatshirt is not enough to brave the Texas December wind.
